Dabirul Choudhury is a 100-year-old who has been in isolation for a little over two months like the rest of us. He helped the Channel S to raise money for ‘RFC COVID19 Crisis’ Initiative. The funds will be distributed to victims of COVID-19 both in the UK, Bangladesh and over 50 countries.
Channel S’ highly reputed Ramadan Family Commitment (RFC) is aimed to generate more funds so that the partner charity organisations receive further assistance from Channel S, and thus able to raise more funds in the month of Ramadan. From Sunday 26th April, Dabirul Choudhury started walking 100 laps from one part of his communal garden to another (80 metres in width), and has done so over the Ramadan period while fasting.
Dabir Choudhury’s Profile
Dabirul Islam Choudhury was born on 1st January 1920 in British Assam, which then changed to Indian Assam, then Sylhet (a part of the then East Pakistan) which 1971 became an independent Bangladesh. In 1957, Dabirul moved to England to study English Literature in London. Due to his education and command in the English language, he ended up as a community leader and settled in St Albans.
He was responsible for many community projects and raised money for the independence struggle of Bangladesh. Dabirul is an accomplished poet and has published over a thousand of his own poems. Dabirul also spends his time going to local book clubs and poetry associations.
Why Dabirul Choudhury is raising funds for RFC
More than half a billion people will be pushed into poverty unless immediate action is taken. Predominantly the people of Bangladesh and third world countries will suffer the most, and children/vulnerable families will suffer from extreme hunger. Channel S TV has partnered with leading international charitable organisations to reach out to as many distressed people as possible affected by this pandemic.
How the RFC distribute this Fund
Donors already donated to the RFC, and the donations are distributed equally amongst their chosen charities (who are their partner). The channel S held 26 live TV appeals during the month of Ramadan on their own Channel S. The RFC help them to generate even more funds. For example, if anyone donates £26 to the RFC, each appeal will get £1. If you donate £260, then each appeal will receive £10.
Mr. Dabirul Islam Chowdhury has been fasting and walked in his own back yard to raise funds for Ramadan Family Commitment (RFC) Covid-19 crisis initiative. So far, he raised about £225,241.
He was inspired by Captain Tom to get involved. We pay tribute to the great work of these hundred-year-old two elders. Captain Tom has been awarded the titles of Colonel and later Knighthood by the British Government.

Our Newcastle correspondent Ahsan uz Zaman Arif started a special appeal to the British Government to honour Mr. Dabirul Islam Chowdhury for his extra ordinary work. We are very happy to support this initiative taken by one of our colleague. Please support the application which will inspire others to do the good work.
